The Challenge

Carl Meale became Engineering Director of Grayton Ltd in 2020 following an illustrious thirteen-year career with the company. He joined three other Board directors, all of whom were very experienced but, as a collective, they felt the business needed a fresh approach. There was a consensus that the rapid growth they were experiencing needed to be managed correctly and that more business expertise, as against engineering skills, was needed at Board level.

The Solution

Enter the Productivity HUBs Programme from the University of Lincoln. Grayton Ltd decided that the Accelerator Programme, which provides a package of masterclasses, mentor-led guidance, and access to people willing to share knowledge, contacts and experience, was the perfect solution. This eight-week, part-time programme is designed to accelerate a business to the next level.

The Verdict

From the entrepreneur

"Every week of the Programme so far has been excellent, but I found the business plan sessions really struck a chord" said Carl Meale, "They were tailored to each business taking part in the Accelerator and were incredibly practical.

"I've now written a new business plan for Grayton Ltd that focuses, strategically and tactically, on how we are going to successfully engineer and manage our growth.

"The sessions around how to pitch for funding were invaluable and most definitely helped us secure the grant funding, which will be used to purchase alignment equipment. We would recommend Productivity HUBs to any manufacturing business, particularly as it is the only support programme of its kind that offers up to £10,000 seed funding."
